- the Spirit of the Valley has a problem. It is becoming more
powerful, but it can also feel itself changing. It likes the former,
dislikes the latter, so it asked Twidget and Beihbehn for help. They
were to go into the Kingdom of Leaves, a cosm of the deciduous plants in
the valley and retrieve the thing it believes is changing it - a “fire”.
For reasons (an ancient oath…) it cannot go into the cosm, which is why
it sent them.
- Things went wrong when Béibhinn was cornered by Ethra, a Fomórach
smith who has spent possibly a millenia hiding out in this realm. He
wasn’t very coherent, so Béibhinn hid while twidget ran for help.
Twidget gathered the magi of the covenant, who were then (to their
surprise) sent into the Kingdom of Leaves by the Spirit of the
Valley.
- the Magi followed a river towards the temple where the “fire”
supposedly is. They found Béibhinn after bypassing some of the locals
(looks like there are 4 clans of humans in the kingdom, the summer clan
looks ascendant and is holding winter/autumn clan members as slaves,
they all wear ant-masks and use aphids as cattle, grazing on the
“leaf”). Ethra met Maine and was chastised after immediately taking… 2
midi and 2 light wounds on the first round, even including his
resistance to fire as a Fomorach smith.
- Ethra tried to negotiate, but Maine and Tim gave 0 fucks. However,
Regina talked to him a bit and found out that his whole thing is he is
looking for his mother’s pendant… she has an open deal with him to help
him find it with her dowsing. He is rather useful, claiming to have
forged Gáe Bulg, Cu Chulain’s legendary spear. Apparently his brother
put out his eyes and buried the pendant somewhere in this realm, as a
way to torture him.
- They went on and found the temple at the heart of the cosm. It is a
greek temple to Gaia, which is quite weird, especially as the greek
didn’t really worship Gaia…? At any rate, they went there, noticing that
none of the myriad spirits of the area seemed to enter the temple.
(Twidget technically didn’t go in, but we can retcon that, makes sense
for that restriction to only apply to spirits from this aura, which she
isn’t necessarily).
- Inside the temple, they met a female animated statue who introduced
itself as Kidemónas, the guardian of the temple. They conversed briefly
with her, came to the conclusion this place was built by the greeks when
they were in Hibernia. She has been bound to this temple for a loooong
time and though she hid it well, she is going somewhat stir-crazy. Then
Maine told her they needed to the “fire” and that they might have to
kill her for it, which is where we ended.
- Ah right, Beibhinn did a spell to detect fires and determined it is
somewhere in the upper floors of the temple.
- The secret sauce is that Twidget, as part of her reward for this
thing, has been offered help to become stronger. She has told no one
about this and feels really bad about not even telling Beibhinn. Also,
she thinks there might be some unforseen consequences to giving the
SPirit of the Valley the “fire” it wants, but she was planning to talk
to Beibhinn about that, but then Ethra happened and now she… doesn’t
know how to bring it up. (I was running Twidget as a bit of a teenage
girl mirror of Beibhinn).
- so yeah, not monstrously convoluted, but not that simple either
😛
- btw, do you have anything planned with Tim’s dwarven background?
THere’s gonna be some vision quests on the way out of the magic realm, I
was thinking of something related to that
- specifically I am going to have him run into the ghost of his father
Abbán, and I know the circumstances of his death were mysterious, so was
thinking of alluding to that
