Initiations
Regardless of the tradition, Initiation is a non-hermetic
process.
It involves an appeal to a spiritual power, a sacrifice and in return,
the power may grant the supplicant the desired gift.
Through sacrifice of time (quest), sacrifice of wealth
(goods or Talisman, etc.) and/or sacrifice of self (ordeal),
the supplicant brings his mind, body and soul into harmony with the
spiritual powers from whom he is requesting the gift.
This is an act of faith and requires genuine belief that the powers in
question can in fact grant the gift. This faith/belief requirement is
represented by the requirement that the supplicant possess at least 1
rank in the appropriate Lore.
Through Initiation, a person can gain almost any ability, even some that are not actually covered by a Virtue (eg see HoH:MC p26). New abilities that are not covered by an existing virtue, should be assessed by the troupe as being equivalent as either a Minor or Major virtue for the purpose of determining the Initiation script.
- The supplicant must possess at least 1 rank in the appropriate
Lore.
- A quest is a sacrifice of time and consumes at least 1 full
season. Even if the actual quest takes less than a full season, the rest
of the time is spent in contemplation of the quest.
- A quest is a sacrifice of time therefore the questor only gains exposure XP in a season of questing. If the questor gains XP from any other source, the time has not really been sacrificed.
