Gulos' Cabin
The cabin sits in a small clearing at the base of a high cliff. The
clearing is ringed by a hedge of vicious thorn bushes, except for a
small gap through which a stream flows.
The cabin itself is a lean-to, built up against the cliff as its rear
wall. The shingle roof overhangs at the front and firewood is stored
underneath. In the clearing there is a chopping block and a rusty axe.
The stream flows out from under the corner of the cabin.
The cabin has no windows, so it is dark inside, even with the door
pushed wide open.
To the right, there is a rough wooden bed with a rotten straw
mattress.
To the left, there is a table and chair. There is a candle holder on the
table and a box under the table holds a half dozen candles.
In the middle of the shack there is a stone fire place with a chimney
that rises through the roof. The stonework is smooth, moulded by magic
from a single block - a close examination finds many finger-marks and
hand-prints in the stone. The fire is open on both the left and right
sides, facing both the table and the bed.
In the corner by the door, there is a hole cut into the floor for a
latrine - the stream passes underneath the hole.
The cold stone of the cliff wall at the back of the shack is covered
with furs. Behind the furs, there is a natural tunnel in the cliff. The
stream runs from the tunnel and flows under the wooden floor of the
cabin.
The Cavern
The stream runs along the tunnel in a smooth channel to the right
side; the left side is a smooth stone path, raised above the water
level. The tunnel extends for about 50 feet and opens into a large
chamber, carved out by the stream over many centuries.
Following the stream, it is channelled around the edge of the chamber in
a smoothed gulley. (hand and finger prints can be found in the surface
of the smoothed stone). The stream flows from a pool - a natural spring
- on the other side of the chamber.
The majority of the chamber floor is smoothed and level, raised above
the level of the stream by a couple of steps. The floor area is covered
by broken laboratory equipment - overturned wooden tables, storage
boxes, jars, etc. Only two things seem undamaged: A wrought-iron cage,
tall enough for a man, the door ajar slightly, and an ornate
bookcase.

Enchanted Items
Effect Level 12
Bookcase
Effect Details: Preserve Books: ReAq(An, He)12 (Base 5, +1 Touch, +6
Constant)
The effect is intended to protect the contents of the bookcase from
insects, fungus and damp. I have based this on ReAq5 ‘ward against
mundane water’.
Notes
The aura fills the cavern but does not extend any further. Altering the cavern extent would disrupt the aura. It has been included as a free virtue as the lab site is outside of the normal covenant boundary. The Covenant aura does not add to this.
Due to the flaws, most laboratory activities will be penalised by the
negative General Quality score. However, most of the flaws can be
removed with some effort.
When removing a Minor or Major Flaw, the magus needs to have sufficient
free points of space, either by first removing an equal Virtue, or by
increasing the refinement score. Where possible and unless otherwise
stated, removing a Free or Minor Flaw usually takes one season and
removing a Major Flaw takes two seasons. This time is occupied with
repairing or restoring the faulty component, but it can be combined with
a season spent improving the Refinement.
The Subterranean flaw cannot be removed as to do so would disrupt the
aura.
Features:
- A man-sized wrought-iron cage with a latch, rather than a lock, in the
center of the chamber.
- A pool fed by a spring, which feeds a stream that runs around the edge
of the chamber. During the spring thaw, Aquam vis can be harvested from
the pool - normally 5 pawns but this may vary if winter was especially
harsh or soft.
