Appearance

Clad as a woodsman or hunter, Fridlinus does not stick much out with the grogs. He is quite handsome, with brown hair and a serious expression to his face. He is not unkind, but he rarely smiles.

Backstory

The Lineage of Diana

During the schism war, one young maga of Diedne was given refuge in the House of Merinita. She had passed her gauntlet after the renounciation of Diedne, and thus was unknown to the Order. Her sponsor quickly initiated her into Faerie Magic and gave her an easy gauntlet to pass her of as his one filia.

After the Schism, all the inner mysteries of Diedne were lost, so Diana developed instead the related nature mysteries in Merinita’s tradition, trying to blend into her new house. In due course, she trained two apprentices, initiating them into Diedne Magic, Faerie Magic, and usually Forest Lore.

When Agnes introduced the True Merinitæ in 1158, Diana’s descendants came forth as strong supporters. Faerie magic had to them been only cover, and their heart had always been in the nature mysteries. In 1220 there is a handful of descendants of Diana, trying to blend into other lineages of House Merinita.

Fridlinus

Fridlinus was born to a woodsman of small means in the outskirts of the Black Forest. Growing up in the woods, he was often left to his own devices, learning to find his own ways. Venturing deeper into the forest he encountered several sites of power, and the floral spirits took an interest in his Gift. His intuition of the forest grew, and he started on the path of Forest Lore even before he was found by Deidre.

Deidre is a mature magus two generations descended from Diana. She took Fridlinus to the covenant of Fengheld, to train him in the tradition of Diana. Even with great enthusiasm for the Merinita mysteries, each awakened a great curiosity about his lost heritage from Diedne. What could his true ancestors do? This became his life goal. To recover the ancient mysteries of Diedne, and restore her House.

Completing the apprenticeship, he was torn between the seekers of Weißdorngilde and the diplomats of Lindengilde, and before he could make up his mind, the offer to start a covenant in the Black Forest came up. He want to join a Guild, but at the moment he is drawn to adventure more than to politics. Maybe in two or three years’ time.

Deidre still acts as a mentor with links to the other magi of Diana’s line (mentor story flaw).
