Winter
Returning from Clon MacNoise

The troupe returns from Clon Macnoise on 1 November, the first day of the Irish year.
In a village, midway between Killaloe and An Scairbh, they meet Eogan. He has spent the night with the grooms in the hayloft, and is now spending the morning hours with his sweetheart before he has to return to Elk’s Run. He finally pulls his act together and proposes to the girl. She is reluctant to believe him, but once she does, she is thrilled.
Afterwards, the troupe passes through An Scairbh. It has been a year since the effect of the Mist of Change ended, and the population is at least halved since before the Mist. The villagers are gathered in the village square, talking. There is a foul stench over the village, maybe rotting carcasses, and many of the cottages are still in disrepair. As the group arrives, some of the recognise Liam, who turns to Boris, the nearest unGifted person in the group. «Long time, no see.»
The villagers are proud, and they want Liam’s Cult to save them after the harsh time following the Mist of Change. Liam wants Una, and the others to join the forming Cult. The more people they are, the more powerful will the Cult be. It seems that the villagers are promised greatness if they form a local cult.
Una, particularly, is hostile, and the villagers, feeling threatened, pick up pitchforks and axes to defend themselves. Not prepared to fight the group leaves without comitting either way.
Council Meeting

Una calls an emergency meeting as soon as they get to the covenant, and nobody is fond of an infernal cult on their doorstep, but decision make is a slow and cumbersome process.
Philippedes goes to The Peruchia of Nerius the next day to seek advice. The best advice he gets is to persuade the villagers to confess and seek penance.
Crimthann and Una do research in the library and learn that
- Pagan village near sir Hanson’s village
- Lugh (or Lugus) and the Tuatha Dé lives in the Land of the Living
- It is extremely hard to enter the faerie realm. A faerie road helps, but is not enough. You need to impress the faeries too.
Travelling to the Pagan Village

At breakfast 3 November, the magi reach a decision. They will first try Una’s course, and try to find the true Lugh of the Tuatha Dé. They decide to travel to the pagan village, which is located close to Gern and sir Hanson’s manor. Maine refuses to take part in the pagan endeavour.
On the way, they pass through An Scairbh. They talk to no one, but observe that the villagers are engaged in construction work under Liam’s direction. In Gern, they meet Peter Coffin and Grendleby, and with some difficulty, they engage Pip to be their guide.
The once pagan village is at the end of the path up one of the valleys, and they arrive before noon. Una and Phil talk to the old wise woman, Adoarna, who remembers the pagan times. Now a chapel has been raised near the village, on the site of their old hall. Dermot talks to the blacksmith and has his blades sharpened. There is a good and broad briddleway leading into the forest to the chapel, as both Adoarna and the smith can confirm. Adoarna points them rather to an old and overgrown path.
They departed on 4 November and tok 2½ days to Gern, where they spent the afternoon socialising with Peter Coffin. They arrived at the village of Chapel Hill on 7 November.
Travelling to the Pagan Village

The troupe ventured into the faerie forest where they met Fionn MacCuhaill and helped him catch the fish in the river. The other side of the river is covered in mist. They tried to cross the bridge, and Dermot overconfidently challenged the guardian knight. He took numerous wounds before he was knocked unconscious and into the river.
The question now is, can he survive? How can they best heal him?
Still in the Pagan Village

Cast Una, Seafraid, Philippedes, Hiccup, Ethel
Philippedes takes Dermot back to covenant, with a complex spree of teleportation, shrinking, and bind wound.
The troupe eats with Fionn mac Cumhaill. Hiccup knows his story, and they learn that Fionn is omniscient after tasting the fish. When Hiccup asks Fionn why people do not trust him, they all learn that Hiccup is Gifted.
Faeries steal their tent pegs during the night.
During the day they are unable to find the regio of the Old Hall.
Ethel talks to Hiccup’s parents and they accept his starting an apprenticeship as a `scribe’.
After sunset, both Ethel and Seafraid is able to see into the regio. They enter and meet Llewelyn the steward, who has prepared the long table for several scores guests. The troupe is warmly welcomed and served the full meal for 60-100 people. Una has not seen a meal like this since Cierella’s forest.
Llewelyn, and the gnomes who serve the meal, are evidently hoping for the villagers to return and tell the stories of the old heroes as they used to do in the past. They are entertained by the party’s stories though, even though it is not quite like the old hero tales.
The party learn very little, though they do get the hint that Lugh lives in Elysium. Fionn should know how to get there, if he has tasted the fish, but by the time the magi have the clue, he is long gone.
Of course, the Gifted child is the best reward for the effort.

Back at the Covenant

Council Meeting
Council attended by voting members una, seafraid, phil, cieran and Igneous Drake. Maine chaired the meeting but had no vote as he is still a probationer.
it was agreed Maine had the right to speak on each issue but no vote on any.
- Who will train hiccup? It was agreed Cieran would immediately take hiccup as his hermetic apprentice.
- What to do with an Scairbh It was agreed to provide food and other provisions to the village and then introduce the villagers to a priest. it was also agreed that any further seeking of the faerie lugh was maga Una’s affair rather than the covenants
- How to us the 20 ex bandits from the Clonmacnoise demonic incident? agree that all magi would provide Maine with a list of the numbers required for their own areas of concern by the following day. the remainder to be deployed to the copper mining operations
- Eogan’s wedding it was agreed the covenant would host and pay for the wedding feast of Eogan and Ornice on the day before the winter solstice.
- The matter of ordering hermetic books from the continent via Adelaine the redcap. Cieran asked for a high level imaginem book but this was not agreed. Una suggested a high level muto book and this was agreed for the price of 28 pawns of vis.
The wedding party will probably cost £1 over and above the regular Aegis feast.
Action
Una, Philippedes, Maine, and Seafraid go to An Scairbh, and the villagers accept the alms and the employment.
Cieran, escarted by armed clansmen, bring the brigands from Clon MacNoise. Hiccup joins to learn.
Eogan is going to marry to Ornice, from the village of Ogonelloe between An Scairbh and Killaloe, on the eve of the solstice. When the wedding party arrives, the day before, they learn that a toddler has disappeared from Ogonelloe. They go to investigate, and Una casts Inexorable Search to learn that the boy is in An Scairbh. The familiar tracks him to the largest building in the village, and the four magi march straight on. As they open the door, a two-headed hound leaps to attack Saorse, and soon after, a dozen axe when assemble to attack them as well.
Seafraid is badly injured. Maine and Una take light wounds. Yet all the enemies are incapacitated or killed. The missing toddler is found in the building and brought to Elk’s Run to his parents in the middle of the night. The axe men did not look like villagers.
